On Wednesday, July 31, 2013 George Conner conducted the first 2014 Community Development Block Grant Home Investment Partnership public hearing. Mr. Conner serves as the Deputy Director of Dauphin County's Department of Community and Economic Development.

The purpose of the hearing was to afford citizens the opportunity to comment on the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) and the housing needs of Dauphin county that can be addressed through the use of CDBG and Home Investment Partnership Grant Funds.

Approximately $1.2 million dollars in CDBG funds and $384,326 in home funds for FY 2013.

The Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) has not released the allocation figures for the 2014 program year.

In order to receive funding from HUD projects must provide a benefit to low income persons, prevent or eliminate slum or blight, or meet an urgent community need that threatens the health or welfare of residents.

The attached funding sheet describes the list of applicants and their projects for consideration before Dapuhin County.

Our video of the hearing contains a description of another phase of Highspire Borough's road rehabilitation program.

In the beginning of the video George Conner notes that Dauphin County qualifies as an "Urban County" which facilitates its receipt of HUD grant funds. We find it interesting that the City of Harrisburg hasn't applied for funding from the County for 2014.
