Press release from the office of the Governor 5:56PM. Governor Corbett Issues Statement Commending House Health and Human Services Committee for Vote on Comprehensive Pension Reform Bill

Harrisburg − Governor Tom Corbett tonight commended the House Health and Human Services Committee for its action to vote out of committee House Bill 1353, originally introduced by Rep. Warren Kampf (R-Chester) and amended through Amendment A06917 by Rep. Mike Tobash (R-Schuylkill):

“Pension costs are consuming more than 60 cents of every new dollar of general fund revenues.

“This is only the first step, but it’s a critical one. I urge the full House to side with taxpayers and give them much-needed property tax relief through meaningful pension reform.

“A vote for pension reform is a vote for our families, our schools, our children, and most importantly, our future. “I commend Majority Leader Turzai and Representatives Tobash, Kampf and Ross, as well as Senators Browne and Brubaker, for their tireless work on this issue.

“This vote demonstrates that we can set partisan politics aside – giving Pennsylvania taxpayers the fighting chance that they need to keep property taxes from spiraling out of control.”
