Capitol portraits of John Perzel, H. William DeWeese, Bob Mellow, and Herbert Fineman now have new plaques identifying the criminal history of the former house and senate leaders.

HARRISBURG — The Legislature has installed new plaque beneath the Capitol portraits of former Senate President Pro Tempore Robert Mellow and former House Speakers John Perzel and William DeWeese to reflect their criminal convictions and ensuing prison sentences.

The new Mellow plaque reads: “Mr. Mellow decided not to seek reelection in 2010. In 2012, Mr. Mellow pled guilty to political corruption and tax evasion and was sentenced to prison on Nov. 30, 2012.”

The move reflects a decision to keep the portraits hanging as historical artifacts but reflect the legal fate of the three individuals.

The portraits hang in the Senate and House wings on the ground floor of the Capitol.
