WHAT: The Dauphin County Commissioners are expected to file a lawsuit against 22 telephone service providers in Pennsylvania for failing to bill, collect and remit the proper 911 assessment charges that help fund the county’s 911 operations. The lawsuit seeks to recover six years of alleged under-billings, a total of $29.6 million.

The county is working with law firm Dilworth Paxson, LLP and Phone Recovery Services, LLC, a telecommunications firm that specializes in analyzing 911 system remittances, to pursue uncollected 911 fees and ways to optimize collection.

It is estimated that in Pennsylvania as much as $100 million per year goes uncollected by phone companies – funding that is critical to 911 centers.
