Harrisburg Redevelopment Authority: Parking for Neighborhood Businesses in South Allison Hill

At the regular meeting of the Harrisburg Redevelopment Authority (HRA) Board, it was unanimously decided to grant Community Action Council's (CAC) request to develop parcels of land on South 13th Street, Harrisburg into a parking lot for "safe and accessible parking" for local businesses.

Kathy Possinger, Executive Director of CAC, presented the potential project to the HRA Board. In the past decade, the City has partnered with groups such as the CAC to develop business and retail space in the South Allison Hill. Possinger highlighted the fact that the need and demand for parking is growing as area businesses expand and fill the available space.

The design for the parking lot will include not only permeable pavement, but also spaces for weekend vendors with the concept to "expand the Broad Street Market" since the neighborhood is a food desert. The Board applauded the aspects of the project.
