City of Harrisburg's New Police Chaplain Program

On January 11th, sixteen volunteer chaplains took an oath to serve citizens of the City of Harrisburg. The newly launched program aims to provide on the scene assistance and support to crime victims, police officers, and families.

While the oath each chaplain took vowed to serve individuals no matter their religion, race, sexual orientation, or gender, it appeared that each of the chaplains represented a Christian denomination. Harrisburg Mayor Linda Thompson emphasized that the group of volunteers embodied multiple ethnicities.

It was unclear how the chaplains were recruited or what training will be provided.
