Supreme Court Justice Joan Orie Melvin: Guilty

Pittsburgh Post Gazette reports Thursday afternoon that Pa Supreme Justice was found guilty on all but one count.

Archive video of Justice Orie Melvin after taking the oath as a member of the PA Supreme Court. On Friday, May 18, 2012, she was charged by the Allegheny County DA's Office with nine criminal counts associated with using public resources for her campaign purpose. Here is the Supreme Court Order relieving her of her Justice duties:

IN THE SUPREME COURT OF PENNSYLVANIA WESTERN DISTRICT.

IN RE: MADAME JUSTICE JOAN ORIE MELVIN OF THE SUPREME COURT OF PENNSYLVANIA, No. 384, Judicial Administration Docket ORDER PER CURIAM:

"AND NOW, this 18thday of May, 2012, notification has been received from the Office of the District Attorney of Allegheny County of the presentment of the Investigating Grand Jury and the institution of formal criminal proceedings against Madame Justice Joan Orie Melvin, a member of the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania. In view of the compelling and immediate need to protect and preserve the integrity of the Unified Judicial System and the administration of justice for the citizens of this Commonwealth, Madame Justice Orie Melvin is hereby relieved of any and all judicial and administrative responsibilities as a Justice and is not to take any further administrative or judicial action whatsoever in any case or proceeding now or hereinafter pending in this Court until further Order of this Court.

This Order is without prejudice to the rights of Madame Justice Orie Melvin to seek such relief in this Court for the purpose of vacating or modifying this Order. Madame Justice Orie Melvin did not participate in this matter."
