Fatal Shooting by Harrisburg Police Officer

Dauphin County Coroner Graham Hetrick has identified the man shoot and killed by a Harrisburg Police Officer as William Jackson.

Dauphin County District Attorney's Office released this statement Sunday evening.

The Criminal Investigation Division of the Dauphin County District Attorney's Office is investigating a fatal shooting that occurred late this afternoon in uptown Harrisburg. Officers were investigating a suspicious vehicle (Ford Ranger pick up) when shots were fired. A man was struck and later died.

His name is not being released pending notification of his family. Forensic investigators are processing the scene at this time. No further details are expected tonight as counsel for the officers has informed investigators that the officers will be unavailable to give statements until Tuesday.

The District Attorney's Office will provide further information as it becomes available. The District Attorney's Office assumes jurisdiction of officer involved shootings to avoid conflicts of interest within the police department.
