At last nights City Council meeting Harrisburg resident Daniel Haubert appeared before council to question the proposed increase in parking meter rates, extended hours and the addition of Saturdays into the current parking fee schedule.

Haubert's Zone spans from Locust to Forster Streets between Front and Third Streets.

Highlighting the fact that his apartment building has over 100 units Haubert expressed doubt that 192 spaces will provide adequate parking for all the residents of his zone.

"Under the new rules of 3 dollars per hour every Saturday I'll have to pay $33 dollars on State Street just to park my car one block from where I live." Haubert continued, "It would actually be less expense for me to leave my car at the Firestone Mechanics shop and get my oil changed every Saturday than to park in the street."

Daniel prepared the following breakdown of available parking spaces as compared to the number of actual spaces he counted within his zone. He went on to explain the differences and asked about city council's plans to expand residential parking zones, "I believe if the zones are not expanded it will cause a lot of people to move out."

Council President Wanda Williams explained that city council is still involved in negotiations with the parking authority and said that his concerns would be taken into consideration.
