Harrisburg, the Capital City of Pennsylvania, is accepting applications for the position of Senior Advisor to the Mayor/Director of Communications. This is a mayoral senior staff position which directs the development, coordination and evaluation of the City?s communications, marketing, and public relations programs. This position is chiefly responsible for preparing and transmitting information through various mediums to news media to achieve public understanding and support. Works with City government officials and employees, City agencies, other government bodies, and the public, to develop information for release to the general public and news media. Represents the Mayor at public hearings, conferences and meetings, at her direction, and carries out special projects as assigned by the Mayor. Directs the development, coordination, evaluation and maintenance of a program which informs the public, builds constituencies, establishes communications, continually gathers information, analyzes public attitudes and fosters a good relationship between the City and the Community it serves. Work is performed under the direct supervision of the Mayor and Chief of Staff. This is a management, FLSA-exempt position
Qualified applicants will have a Bachelor?s Degree in the area of communications, business or public administration, or a minimum of three (3) years work experience in a combination of areas including public relations, speech writing, marketing, advertising, communications, broadcast arts, journalism, political science and graphic arts. Experience working with elected officials preferred.
The salary range is $74,000 to $77,000, depending on qualifications, plus excellent fringe benefits. The successful candidate must establish residency within the corporate limits of the City of Harrisburg within one year from date of hire.
