City of Harrisburg fire fighter and fire union president Eric Jenkins is one of the Plaintiffs in the Federal lawsuit challenging the constitutionality of Harrisburg's Receivership.
In his testimony during the March 21st Federal hearing to determine if the Plaintiffs have Standing to make their case, Jenkins talked about the harm the Receiver's Recovery Plan imposes on the City's fire fighters. Afterwards, Jenkins tells the press that the fire department is headed towards critical problems because of numerous fire fighters leaving and a lack of new hires.
"We will be in severe, severe manning numbers in about, at least, 30 to 60 days from now." Ideally, Jenkins says the Harrisburg Bureau of Fire should have 80-100 firefighters, and as of now, the City has 67 with six more leaving in April.--Tara Leo Auchey
