Two days before Pennsylvania's first-ever municipal receiver, David Unkovic, Receiver of the City of Harrisburg, turned in his resignation, he held a press conference to discuss the hindrances and pressures he was experiencing as he tried to solve the City's fiscal problems. During questions from the press, reporter Eric Veronikis disclosed that during a recent interview with Senator Jeff Piccola (who lead the charge in writing and passing the law to takeover the capital city), the Senator asserted that Unkovic needed to stop engaging with the citizens of Harrisburg.
Incredulously Unkovic said no recovery plan would work without such involvement.
"All I'm trying to do, as the state-appointed receiver, is do what's right for the citizens of the City of Harrisburg."
It was at this press conference that Unkovic listed specific names of parties he believes are wrongly directing the City's path. "All I know is that I'm dealing with a lot of public officials who have lots of agendas.
He went on to say, "These people are pushing things that are not in the best interest of this city." On March 30th, David Unkovic submitted his resignation to the Commonwealth Court. --Tara Leo Auchey
