As released by the office of Democratic Leader Frank Dermody:
HARRISBURG, March 18 – House Democratic Leader Frank Dermody commented on today’s meeting of the Liquor Control Committee, which advanced legislation (H.B. 790) that would greatly complicate Pennsylvania’s system of selling liquor.
“People want convenience. This legislation delivers chaos,” Dermody said.
“The members of the committee raised many questions about the bill and the substantial changes made to it today, but they did not get many answers. Having just received the extremely complex amendment three days ago, legislators are honestly confused about what they were asked to add to the bill today.
“The men and women who will be asked to vote on this bill in the House of Representatives ought to have enough time to get answers to dozens of questions that were raised, but the majority Republicans chose to rush the bill through the committee instead.
“The amended bill is even more convoluted than the scheme that the governor proposed,” Dermody said. “The House needs to assess what this new legislation really does before taking any further action.”
