As released by Capitol Region Water:

SOUTH 14TH STREET WATER MAIN BREAK REPAIRED; BOIL WATER ADVISORY REMAINS IN EFFECT

CREWS WILL CONTINUE TO MONITOR THE SITE; FURTHER STREET REPAIRS NEEDED

HARRISBURG (March 21, 2014) – Capital Region Water, formerly The Harrisburg Authority (THA), repaired a water main break on the 1400 block of South 14th Street yesterday afternoon. Customers now have water service but will remain under a Boil Water Advisory until Saturday at the earliest while testing takes place. One residence closest to the sinkhole will be reconnected to water service later today. Capital Region Water provided drinking water while gas service was shut off yesterday. Gas service is expected to return this afternoon to almost all residents while additional repairs take place.

“With the assistance of Harrisburg Police, Fire, and the Departments of Public Works and Codes Enforcement, our crews were able to make repairs to the water main quickly”, said Executive Director Shannon Williams, “We will continue to monitor the area and fix this issue correctly.”

While street repairs take place, Capital Region Water crews will assess the need for additional water line repairs or replacement.

“Our thoughts are with the residents”, said Williams, “what they went through is an example of why we can’t afford to ignore our water infrastructure any longer. We’re dedicated to fixing the problems that stem from a long neglected system as well as being proactive to prevent future issues.”
