MAYOR PAPENFUSE ANNOUNCES CREATION OF HOUSING COURT TO STRENGTHEN BUILDING CODES ENFORCEMENT
HARRISBURG – Mayor Eric Papenfuse will announce the creation of a new Housing Court to hear cases of code enforcements for buildings in the city of Harrisburg at a press conference at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 30, 2014, in the atrium of the MLK Government Center, 10 N. Second St., Harrisburg.
“This is an unprecedented and positive development that will bring more consistency in enforcing the city’s housing codes,” Mayor Papenfuse said. “The new Housing Court will help eliminate the backlog of cases in the judicial system and increase efficiency in the city’s codes department.”
Under the new Housing Court plan that takes effect May 5, 2014, Magisterial District Judges Rebecca Margerum and David Judy will hear all cases related to codes enforcement in the city of Harrisburg. Judge Margerum will hear code violation cases involving properties on the eastern side of Cameron Street and Route 22/322; and Judge Judy will hear cases involving properties located on the western side of Cameron and Route 22/322.
The judges will conduct hearings at the Judicial Center in the Night Court courtroom.
