Special Hearing Scheduled to Receive Testimony Regarding the City of Shamokin’s Request for Determination of Municipal Financial Distress
Harrisburg – Department of Community and Economic Development (DCED) Secretary C. Alan Walker announced today that a public hearing has been scheduled regarding the City of Shamokin’s request for determination of municipal financial distress and related borrowing filed by the City of Shamokin pursuant to the Municipalities Financial Recovery Act, Act 47 of 1987 as amended.
The hearing will be held on Wednesday, June 4, 2014 at 5:00 p.m., at City Hall, 47 East Lincoln Street, Shamokin, PA 17872 before a hearing officer duly appointed by the Department.
DCED scheduled the special hearing to hear testimony presented on behalf of the City of Shamokin with respect to the request from the City for determination of municipal financial distress and to enter the Act 47 program. The department will gather information on the municipality’s financial condition and whether the conditions exist to warrant a municipal financial distress determination.
At the hearing, testimony on the current and projected fiscal condition and other issues will be received from the City’s elected officials and other interested parties. Individuals wanting to provide comment will need to register at the hearing. Written testimony may also be submitted to the hearing panel.
