During the 2013 Budget request review, City Controller Dan Miller explains the Office of the Controller's Legal line item, which is $10,000 less than what was budgeted in 2012. So far, in 2012, the Office of the Controller has spent $33,578.54 on legal fees mostly associated with lawsuits between the Controller and the Mayor. Miller states, "I'd like to request a $50,000 decrease," but declares that could only happen if the Mayor "agreed not to sue us over the next year or two." The last lawsuit resolved between the two offices had to do with jurisdiction over payroll disbursements. After a year-long battle, Dauphin County Judge Lawrence Clark articulated an agreement between the two parties on May 3, 2012, which gave oversight power to the Controller's Office. Currently, the Controller and the Mayor are engaged in a lawsuit over the contract to auction off the artifacts.---Tara Leo Auchey
