On Thursday, November 1, 2012, the Pennsylvania Attorney General's Office announced that criminal charges have been filed against former Penn State University President Graham Spanier as well as new charges filed against former PSU Senior Vice President for Finance and Business, Gary Schultz, and former Penn State Athletic Director, Timothy Curley.
With the addition of the new charges, all three men now face five counts each: 1) one count of perjury 2) one count failure to report child abuse 3) one count criminal conspiracy 4) one count obstruction of justice 5) one count endangerment of children.
Attorney General Linda Kelly decried the actions of the three men as "cowardly," and declared that this case is about "three men who used their positions at Penn State to conceal and cover up, for years, the activities of a known child predator."
Kelly went on to say, "If these men had done what they were supposed to do and what they were legally required to do, several young men may not have been attacked by a serial predator."
When asked if Coach Joe Paterno would be charged were he alive, Kelly responded that she would not speculate on his involvement. "Mr. Paterno is deceased, and that's the end of it."
