Fire Bureau units were dispatched to a report of building fire in the 2400 block of Reel Street at 18:14 hours this evening. Dauphin County Communications was receiving multiple calls reporting that a large duplex building was on fire, prompting an additional alarm to immediately be struck. Fire Bureau units arrived on scene at 18:17 hours to find a large volume of fire coming from the first floor rear of 2446 Reel Street.

Engine company crews began stretching multiple handlines to extinguish the fire while the ladder companies started to search for victims and open up the void spaces to cut off the fire spread. The fire was marked as being under control at 18:45 hours.

In total all five Fire Bureau apparatus worked the fire scene. Multiple other mutual aid companies were transferred into City fire stations to cover the city until the fire was brought under control. Fire Bureau units and the fire investigator cleared the scene at 20:34 hours.

The fire caused significant damage to 2446 Reel Street. The attached property, 2444 Reel Street, suffered damage due to the need to open up the attached walls to cut off fire extension.

The fire was determined to have started in the first floor of 2446, and was intentionally set by a person or persons that are unknown at this time. Harrisburg Bureau of Police is actively handling the investigation.
